Year 10 boys supporting the local community

On Wednesday 21st May, 6 Year 10 boys, taking part in the Alan Senitt Upstanders Leadership Programme, delivered maternity packs to Watford General Hospital. This completed the first phase of the team’s project, for which they raised money through a bake sale (with stock kindly provided by Greggs), researched the needs of new mothers through a staff survey and bought appropriate materials (with thanks to The Entertainer for selling at a reduced rate).

The packs will be given to new mothers in need by the Maternity Unit, in which there are on average 10 births a day. To support the second phase of the project, in which it will be scaled up, do look out for a raffle after half term, which will raise money for the creation of further packs.

The staff at the hospital were very appreciative of teenage boys choosing such a well-conceived and worthwhile project, and the whole team are to be congratulated on the initiative they have shown.
