Vex Robotics - Season opener October 2024
Back
After last year’s successes the school has doubled the number of students competing in the international VEX IQ Robotics competition from 2 teams to 4 teams. Our first competition of the season saw two teams travelling to Grieg City Academy in Hornsey. This proved a good test for the robots and strategies the boys had developed for the new season’s game “Rapid Relay”, which involves creating robots to throw small footballs through targets, preferably after receiving them as a ‘pass’ from the other team on the field.
Highlights included the Year 8 team, Cyberdroids (Zayan, Shelton, Karamveer, Aarya, Aadam, Shresth) being placed 2nd in the teamwork event, beaten only by a score from the winning pairing which was the highest score posted in the UK so far. Last year’s World Championships team Mekanix (Daniyal, Angad, Aaron, Aarnav, Mustafa and Joseph from year 10) struggled to get consistency in their innovative double-ball-launching mechanism but still achieved a commendable 4th out of 17 attendees in the driver skills part of the event.
We are looking forward to the rest of the season as the boys work together with ideas and designs.
