Film Studies

In year 12, the A Level Film Studies course ignites passion for film as we explore and engage critically with a wide range of films from different cultures, eras and genres to develop confident responses. Students demonstrate understanding through either film making or screenwriting.

Aims and outcomes:

  • demonstrating  knowledge and understanding of a diverse range of film, including documentary, film from the Silent Era, experimental and short film
  • Understanding  film and its key contexts (including social, cultural, political, historical and technological contexts)
  •  knowledge and understanding of how films generate meanings and responses
  • understanding of the different ways in which spectators respond to film
  •  applying critical approaches to film
  • applying  knowledge and understanding of film through either film making or screenwriting
