On Tuesday 26th November, four Key Stage Five students of German were involved in an online debate organised by The Goethe Institute. The students had to prepare arguments in favour of the motion that compulsory environmental education should be introduced into all schools, all in academic German! Using debating language, idiom and sophisticated vocabulary and structures, the students argued articulately for the ‘pro’ side and proved worthy opponents for the students of St Thomas More Catholic School in this first round. Unfortunately we were unlucky not to progress to round two, but the judges from the institute commented on the language and presentation of our students and suggested the final decision had been very difficult! Very well done to Joseph who was our team captain, and Max, Dominic and Vlad in Year 12. Thanks also to Mrs Hensman and our German Assistant Mia who supported the boys both on the day and in their preparations for the event.
