German Trip to BFI
On the 12th December Miss Anderson took all of the sixth form German students to the British Film Institute (BFI) on the Southbank by Waterloo. The trip was for the German BFI Study Day, which focused on movies about East Berlin and the wall. It was a great opportunity to learn about the history of East Berlin and what life was like for the people living there, which is something we cover in our A-Level topics. We were also able to benefit from advice on analysing cinematic techniques such as camera positioning in German. I found the afternoon screening of ‘Goodbye Lenin!’ particularly interesting as it highlighted the difficulty in integrating the two sides of Germany, and the ideological differences between people in both areas. Overall it was an incredibly interesting and useful experience for a Sixth Form German student.
