Season’s Greetings Cards Delivered to local Care Homes

For the fourth year in a row the Library worked with Year 7 to create amazing Seasons Greeting cards for The Chase Care Home and for the first time this year St Anthony’s Care Home. This term WBGS has been celebrating kindness and this was a perfect show of our Year 7 boys care and kindness within the community.

The Librarian took sixteen boys whose cards were exemplary to The Chase, we walked with the MFL Department who took a choir to entertain the residents. The care homes are always grateful for these visits as many of the residents will not receive cards or visits during this festive period. We will visit St Anthony’s the last week of this term.

Mindful and Social Activities in the Library

Various boys having been discussing with Mrs Waterman the possibility of having mindful and social activities in the Library, for downtime during lunch and break. Our chess boards are very popular and enjoyed by all year groups, so we decided to try an Advent Calendar puzzle, where a small box is open each day and a section of the puzzle is built. This has been very successful and it is lovely to see boys (and some staff) from different year groups working to piece the puzzle together. We will be looking at Top Trump battle mat games in the New Year.

A letter was sent out to parents/carers this term reminding our school community of the free eBooks available to our staff and students to read online. If you are travelling or don’t have time to pick up a book, please encourage students to download a book on their devise to read during this upcoming break. Encouraging boys to read, whether through eBooks or printed books—fosters creativity, empathy, and lifelong learning habits. The key is to let them explore topics they find interesting to make reading enjoyable.

Overdue Library books

Mrs Mitchell has been working hard with Form teachers and students, to encourage the return of overdue Library books. Students must think of others who may wish to borrow the book they are sitting on and unfortunately we will charge for long time overdue books to be replaced via ParentPay. Please encourage students to have a good look for and return books to the Library.

Goodbye and Hello

Our Library Assistant Mrs Mitchell who has been an integral part of our library team will be moving to permanently work in WBGS Learning Support Department in the New Year. Whilst we are sad to see her move on, we are excited for the new opportunities this will bring her. We will be welcoming Mrs Volpe as our new Library Assistant who will be joining the team in the New Year.

Merry Christmas, from
