Library Archives Display of School History
BackAt the beginning of each school year we like to take the opportunity to celebrate our school’s rich history by sharing our favourite artefacts from the WBGS archive. Our 6th form community service volunteers have been working very hard to document and care for the many items and we discover new treasure’s nearly every week. Our most recent new discovery was a student’s physics workbook from 1940, students were amazed at the beautiful handwriting and care that had obviously been taken when taking notes.
We created a wonderful display in the Library sharing our rich school history which was enjoyed by not only prospective students and their families on our Open morning, led by boys volunteering in the Library sharing information and answering questions. The display was also shared and enjoyed by students across the school throughout lunch breaks and during organised Year 7 class visits with the History Department.
Having been founded in 1704 WBGS have 320 years of history and we are privileged to have some artefacts that date back over 300 years. Some of the key features students could explore this year included:
- The Punishment Book from the 1960’s
- A beautiful Physics students workbook, from 1940…so so neat!
- Sports medals
- Historic photographs
- And much more...
