English - Trip to National Theatre
Backhe English Department took a group of keen sixth-formers to see the incredible David Oyelowo starring in the RSC’s production of Coriolanus at the National Theatre in the South Bank, London last week. Having managed to locate the theatre in good time, they were gripped by this dramatic downfall of a proud warrior and vital defender of Rome, brought to his knees by petty populism. The evening was an excellent demonstration of how Shakespeare’s language, even in a less well-known play, can be brought to life by great actors, thoughtful direction and impressive staging. An experience that we hope to repeat for the sixth-formers more regularly.
