December 2018

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new campaign to raise money for a new astroturf on the main school site. Those familiar with recent developments at the school will be aware of the recent opening of the STEM Centre to boost our science and maths offering, and other departments in the school have benefitted from recent refurbishment.

Our programme of capital development over the past ten years has, through necessity, focused on updating facilities and buildings that were no longer fit for purpose, and expanding the space available to teach an increased number of students in anticipation of an extra form of entry from September 2018. It is with this goal in mind that our attention now turns to our sports facilities.

The school’s changing rooms have been undergoing a sorely needed expansion and upgrade thanks to an external grant. This has increased the capacity for boys to get changed for sports at the main site, and made the facilities more modern and less cramped and unhygienic.

To reduce the impact of having ‘stop-start’ development on site, once the changing rooms are completed we will commence an additional extension to the main sports block which will create a function room – the Main School Pavilion – that will overlook the astroturf and main field and enable the viewing of school sports, to match the facilities available at the New Field.

To improve the space available for playing sport, an extension to the existing astroturf pitch has also been approved for development, and this is where external assistance for funding is required. This would not only be a huge asset to the boys playing competitive sport, but also during break and lunch times where the astroturf is popular for playing football with friends. With the increased numbers of boys in the school, these play spaces are an important way of ensuring there are sufficient facilities for boys to play outside and stay active.

The current pitch is too small to host competitive hockey fixtures and the proposed extension will provide a larger area to enable two games of mini hockey to be played, as specified by England Hockey. The number of tennis courts will also be increased.
