Personal Social and Health Education

Key Stage 3

Students in year 7 and 8 have PSHE delivered through specific days every term as well as through talks throughout the year. The themes for PSHE days are:

Year 7 Bullying, Health and Safety, Law and Order, Road Safety, Teamwork, Puberty, eSafety
Year 8 Film Piracy, HIV/AIDS, Parliament, Fair-trade, Waste Awareness, Personal Finance, Disability, Emotional Awareness, Relationships

Students in year 9 have PSHE delivered through weekly single lessons.  Students cover the following topics during these sessions: Healthy Eating, Fire Safety, First Aid, Careers and Options, Sexual Health, Asylum Seekers, Alcohol, Smoking, Global Finance

In June, Year 9 students begin their EPS studies by looking at goals and their future.

Key Stage 4

Students in Years 10 and 11 study a programme called EPS (Ethical & Personal Studies).  This is a combination of statutory RS and PSHE at Key Stage 4.  The topics students study are as follows:

Autumn Drugs, Alcohol, Smoking, Sexual Health Mental Health and Stress, Marriage & Divorce, Relationships, Exam Preparation

Spring  CV writing and letters of application, job interviews, Alcohol and Smoking 2 ,  A Levels, Race and Prejudice.

Summer Human Rights, Freedom of Speech, Anger and Violence, Work Experience Time Management, Study Leave

Key Stage 4r EPS is complemented by talks during assembly time. These include talks from the Connexions team on careers & A Level choices, & also from Glaxo Smith Kline on animal testing and the Red Cross on human rights.
